W Lewis St functions as Downtown’s “main street” with the highest concentration of active street level retail uses, wider sidewalks, and consistent building frontages. The current design of W Lewis St includes two 17’ travel lanes that are much wider than needed and may contribute to higher vehicle speeds and potential conflicts with pedestrians.

W Lewis St should be “right-sized” to allocate more space for pedestrians by widening sidewalks, narrowing travel lanes, maintaining on-street parking, adding mid-block crossings where appropriate, and streetscape improvements.

Streetscape improvements could include new street trees, pedestrian and artistic lighting, street furniture, and ample space for businesses to use the right of way for activities such as outdoor dining and retail displays.
